The Rouse Hill Water Recycling Plant (WRP) treats effluent and delivers recycled water to the Rouse Hill catchment. Abergeldie worked with Sydney Water on upgrades to the plant as part of a broader initiative to link three treatment plants into the North West Treatment Hub. Rapid urban growth, driven by rezoning for the North West Rail Link, has increased pressure on the plant's capacity. The new hub will create a more efficient, integrated wastewater system, that supports future growth while helping to protect local waterways.

Scope of works

The scope of works involved: 

  • Installation of a new balance tank, transfer pumping station, and odour control unit.
  • Construction of a raw sewage transfer structure and pipeline.
  • Optimisation of controls and flow at the existing shallow bed filters.
  • Implementation of electrical, instrumentation, and control upgrades to enhance system performance.
  • Upgrade of construction access to support efficient site operations.
  • Incorporation of bushfire protection measures for both new and existing assets.

Effective cost management

To manage the challenges of uncertain underground conditions, the team used carefully planned vendor agreements and predictable cost frameworks. This allowed the project to progress efficiently, stay within budget, and deliver a high-performing network for the community.

Meeting growing network demands

To meet the growing demands of the Rouse Hill catchment, the project upgraded key components of the sewage network to relieve pressure on ageing infrastructure. Existing treatment plants were struggling to keep pace with increasing wastewater flows, risking delays and inefficiencies. The team navigated operational constraints and a tight site footprint while delivering essential upgrades, including enhanced pumping, improved controls, and increased treatment capacity, ensuring the system could operate reliably and efficiently. Works were delivered collaboratively, adapting to changing needs and specifications to create a resilient, high-performing network that supports the community now and into the future.
